hypernovas
Beyond ordinary supernovae
Hypernovas are the most energetic stellar explosions known, far exceeding ordinary supernovas in luminosity and power.
They occur when extremely massive stars—typically at least thirty times the sun's mass—collapse at the end of their lives, sometimes producing gamma-ray bursts detectable across the universe.
The hypernova released more energy in seconds than the sun will in its entire lifetime.
