hypercane
Hypothetical extreme cyclone
A hypercane is a hypothetical extreme hurricane of extraordinary intensity, theorized to form over superheated ocean water (around 50°C or higher).
Scientists propose such storms could have occurred after asteroid impacts or during periods of extreme global warming, generating winds exceeding 500 mph and reaching into the stratosphere.
The concept remains theoretical—no hypercane has been observed in recorded history.
