hotshoe

Flash attachment point

A hotshoe is the mounting bracket on top of a camera that holds accessories like external flashes, microphones, or wireless triggers.

Unlike a cold shoe, a hotshoe has electrical contacts that allow communication between the camera and the accessory: The flash syncs automatically when mounted on the hotshoe.

Also spelled hot shoe.
