A home phone is a landline telephone connected to a residence, as distinct from a mobile phone or office phone.
Before cell phones became ubiquitous, the home phone was the primary way to reach someone when they weren't at work.
The term now carries a slightly dated quality, as many households have abandoned landlines entirely.
