holy writ
Authoritative religious writings
Holy writ is any text considered sacred or authoritative.
Used ironically, it describes writings or rules that people treat as beyond question: The company handbook isn't holy writ—we can change the policies.
The phrase mocks excessive reverence for documents or pronouncements that don't deserve it. (Capitalized Holy Writ refers specifically to the Bible.)
