hodman

Bricklayer's laboring assistant

A hodman is a laborer who carries bricks, mortar, and other materials to bricklayers and masons on a construction site.

The name comes from the hod—a V-shaped trough on a pole carried over the shoulder.

The term is mostly historical, though the work continues under other names.
