hissing cockroach
Noisy Madagascar bug
A hissing cockroach is a large cockroach native to Madagascar, notable for producing a loud hissing sound by forcing air through breathing holes.
Unlike most cockroaches, they are wingless and can grow to three inches long.
Kept as pets and used in education, they're considered docile and easy to handle: The kids passed around the hissing cockroach at the science fair.
