helldiver
Small diving bird
A helldiver is a small diving bird of the grebe family, named for its ability to plunge underwater and stay submerged for extended periods—as if diving to hell itself.
The word also refers to the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, a World War II dive bomber notorious among pilots for handling difficulties.
More recently, Helldivers names a video game series featuring soldiers dropped from orbit into combat zones.
