hell house
Religious horror maze
A hell house is a haunted attraction staged by evangelical Christian churches, typically around Halloween, depicting graphic scenes of sin and damnation—abortion, drug use, suicide, drunk driving—culminating in heaven-or-hell judgment.
The goal is evangelism through fear: The youth group volunteered at the church's hell house.
The term also describes any dilapidated or chaotic dwelling.
