hedgehopper

Treetop-skimming aircraft

A hedgehopper is a pilot who flies at very low altitude, just above hedges and treetops.

The term originated in military aviation for aircraft flying low to avoid radar detection: The hedgehoppers came in under enemy radar.

It can also describe any reckless low-flying pilot or, by extension, a small plane used for short local trips.
