Chasing thermal signatures
Heat seeking describes something that homes in on a heat source, most often a missile that tracks the thermal signature of aircraft engines: The jet deployed flares to confuse the heat-seeking missile.
Figuratively, it suggests aggressive pursuit of a target: heat-seeking lawyers, a heat-seeking publicity hound.
