hear hear

Parliamentary approval cry

Hear hear is an exclamation of agreement or approval, typically shouted in response to a speech or statement.

Originally a call to direct attention—Hear him! Hear him! —it became a parliamentary tradition, especially in British legislatures, where members voice support without applauding.

Outside formal settings, it endorses someone's point: A: "We need better public transit." B: "Hear hear!"
