headlice

Itchy scalp invaders

Headlice are tiny wingless insects that live on the human scalp, feeding on blood and causing itching.

They spread through head-to-head contact, especially among schoolchildren, and lay eggs (nits) that cling to hair shafts.

An infestation requires treatment with special shampoos or combs.

Also spelled as two words: head lice.
