head space

Capacity for thought

Head space (also headspace) refers to the mental or emotional capacity for dealing with something: I don't have the head space to think about that right now.

The term suggests a kind of psychological room or bandwidth.

In technical contexts, headspace is the empty volume above liquid in a sealed container, or the distance between a firearm's bolt face and the cartridge base.
