head banging
Violent musical nodding
Head banging is the vigorous back-and-forth shaking of one's head in time with loud rock or heavy metal music, typically at concerts.
The motion can be straight up and down or side to side, often with long hair whipping dramatically.
Extended to any intense physical response to music: The crowd was head banging to the bass drop.
As two words, head banging can also mean literally hitting one's head against something, sometimes as self-injurious behavior.
