hangar bay

Ship storage chamber

A hangar bay is a large enclosed space within a ship, space station, or military vessel where aircraft or spacecraft are stored, maintained, and launched.

The term appears frequently in science fiction—starships have hangar bays for shuttles and fighters—but also describes real compartments on aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships: The damaged helicopter was towed back to the hangar bay.
