handbrake turns
Rear-wheel drift maneuvers
A handbrake turn is a driving maneuver where the driver yanks the parking brake while turning sharply, causing the rear wheels to lock and the car to spin dramatically.
It's a staple of action movies and stunt driving: He executed a perfect handbrake turn in the parking lot.
Also called a handbrake slide.
The technique is mostly for show—and hard on the car.
