halloa
Call to hounds
Halloa is an old-fashioned exclamation used to attract attention or express surprise, essentially a variant of hello or hollo.
It appears most often in British literature from the 19th century: Halloa! What's all this?
The word sometimes signals the start of a fox hunt or calls hounds.
Now largely replaced by hello in everyday speech.
