Top-of-page indicators
Guide words are the pair of words printed at the top of dictionary pages indicating the first and last entries on that page.
They help readers navigate alphabetically to find words quickly: The guide words "fumble" and "fungus" told me "fund" would be on this page.
Also called running heads.
