guest column
Outsider's opinion piece
A guest column is an opinion piece or essay written by someone who isn't a regular contributor to the publication.
Newspapers and magazines invite outside voices—experts, public figures, or readers—to offer perspectives different from staff writers: The senator wrote a guest column defending the legislation.
Distinguished from a regular column, which appears on a predictable schedule by the same author.
