groundworkers

Foundation preparation crew

Groundworkers are construction laborers who prepare sites before building begins.

They dig foundations, lay drainage pipes, pour concrete, and do other work at or below ground level.

The term is more common in British than American English, where such workers might simply be called laborers or excavation crews.
