granny shots
Old-fashioned free throws
A granny shot is an underhand free throw in basketball, released from below the waist with both hands.
The technique looks awkward but is mechanically sound—some players have achieved remarkable accuracy with it.
Few use it because it appears old-fashioned or undignified: He switched to granny shots and his percentage improved dramatically.
