good guys
White hats, figuratively
Good guys are the heroic or morally upright characters in a story, conflict, or situation—opposed to the bad guys or villains.
The term is casual and often slightly ironic, acknowledging that real-world morality is messier than narrative simplicity suggests: Are we sure we're the good guys here?
In action movies and children's stories, the good guys reliably win; in life, the designation is often contested.
