gold star parent
Lost child serving
A gold star parent is a parent whose child died while serving in the U.S. military.
The term comes from the practice of displaying a gold star in the window to indicate a family member killed in service, as opposed to a blue star for one currently serving.
Gold star parents gathered at the memorial ceremony.
