gen ed
Non-major coursework
Gen ed is short for general education, the required courses outside a student's major that aim to provide broad foundational knowledge: I still have to finish my gen eds before I can graduate.
These typically include introductory classes in writing, math, science, and humanities.
The term is primarily American college slang.
