Future faking is making promises about the future with no intention of keeping them, typically to manipulate someone into staying in a relationship or maintaining hope.
Common in discussions of narcissistic abuse: He kept future faking about marriage and kids to string me along.
The faker may genuinely believe their promises in the moment but consistently fails to follow through.
