fructification

Producing reproductive structures

Fructification is the process of bearing fruit, or the fruit itself—particularly the reproductive structures of plants, fungi, or other organisms.

Botanists use the term for any seed-bearing structure: The fructification of the fern appears as brown spots on the underside of fronds.

Figuratively, fructification describes the productive outcome of effort or development: the fructification of years of research.
