friend requests
Digital connection offers
Friend requests are invitations to connect on social media platforms, where one user asks another to become linked contacts.
Accepting a friend request typically grants mutual access to profiles, posts, and other shared content.
The term captures the awkward formality of digitized social connection: I have three hundred pending friend requests from people I've never met.
