free libraries
Public lending collections
Free libraries are small, often box-shaped structures placed in public spaces where people can take and leave books without charge or membership.
Unlike public libraries, they operate informally—typically installed by community members in front yards or along sidewalks.
The concept follows the honor system: Take a book, leave a book.
Also called Little Free Libraries, after the nonprofit that popularized them.
