foreign bureau
Distant news outpost
A foreign bureau is a branch office of a news organization located in another country, staffed by correspondents who report on events in that region.
Major newspapers and broadcast networks maintain foreign bureaus in capitals and hot spots around the world: The network closed its foreign bureau in Cairo due to budget cuts.
The term also applies to overseas offices of government agencies.
