flower head
Petals' collective arrangement
A flower head is a dense cluster of small flowers grouped together on a single stem, appearing as one bloom.
Sunflowers, daisies, and dandelions are actually flower heads—what looks like petals are individual ray flowers surrounding tiny disc flowers at the center.
The term also applies to any compact floral cluster: The broccoli was past its prime, with yellowing flower heads.
