flight recorders
Black box devices
Flight recorders are devices that capture data from aircraft during flight, designed to survive crashes and help investigators determine what went wrong.
The flight data recorder logs technical parameters—altitude, airspeed, heading—while the cockpit voice recorder captures crew communications and ambient sounds.
Despite being called black boxes, they're typically bright orange for easier recovery.
