fish hatcheries
Aquatic breeding facilities
Fish hatcheries are facilities where fish eggs are artificially fertilized, incubated, and raised to a stage where the young fish can be released into natural waters or transferred to fish farms.
They exist primarily to replenish wild populations depleted by overfishing, habitat loss, or dam construction, and to stock recreational fishing areas.
The state operates several salmon hatcheries along the river.
Hatcheries may also breed fish for aquaculture or conservation of endangered species.
