fish-eyes
Cold, unfriendly stares
Fish-eyes are small bubbles or circular defects that appear in paint, varnish, or other coatings, caused by surface contaminants like oil or silicone that prevent proper adhesion: The fresh coat developed fish-eyes where I hadn't cleaned the surface.
The term also describes a suspicious or cold sidelong glance: She gave him the fish-eye when he walked in late.
