first team
Starting lineup group
First team refers to the primary or starting lineup of players on a sports team, as opposed to reserves or substitutes.
In British English especially, it designates the top squad in a club's hierarchy: He finally made the first team after two years in the academy.
The term also appears in honorific contexts, where being named to an all-conference or all-American first team recognizes a player as among the best at their position.
