Opening game roster
The starting eleven are the eleven players who begin a football (soccer) match on the pitch, as opposed to substitutes on the bench.
Coaches announce their starting eleven before kickoff, and the selection often signals tactical intentions: He's gone with a defensive starting eleven today.
Also called the starting lineup or first eleven.
