first folios
Bard's initial compilations
First folios are the earliest printed editions of collected works, produced in the folio format—large sheets folded once to create pages about fifteen inches tall.
The term most often refers to the 1623 First Folio of Shakespeare's plays, the first collected edition of his dramatic works and the only source for eighteen of his plays.
A first folio sold at auction for ten million dollars.
