firescreens
Decorative hearth shields
Firescreens are protective barriers placed in front of a fireplace to prevent sparks from escaping into the room.
Traditionally decorative as well as functional, they range from simple mesh panels to ornate folding screens.
The term applies to both freestanding screens and fixed guards: The brass firescreen reflected the flames.
