hearth fire

A hearth fire is a fire burning in a fireplace or on a hearth—the traditional center of a home's warmth and activity.

The phrase evokes domestic comfort and family gathering: They sat around the hearth fire telling stories.

It appears often in historical or literary contexts where the fireplace served as the home's primary heat source and social focus.
