fill dirt
Grading material, cheap
Fill dirt is soil used to fill holes, raise ground level, or provide a base for construction.
Unlike topsoil, it contains little organic matter—mostly clay, sand, and subsoil—making it stable and unlikely to shift or decompose.
We need ten loads of fill dirt to level the backyard before pouring the foundation.
