feather pen
Bird-derived writing tool
A feather pen is a writing instrument made from a bird's flight feather, with the hollow shaft cut to a point and split to hold ink.
The term is somewhat redundant—the standard word is quill.
Feather pens were the primary writing tool in Western civilization for over a thousand years before steel nibs replaced them: She dipped her feather pen in the inkwell.
