fast-forwards

Rushes through footage

Fast-forwards means to advance a recording rapidly past content you don't want to watch or hear: I fast-forwarded through the commercials.

The term comes from tape players, where the tape literally moved forward at high speed.

Now it applies to any media: fast-forward to the good part.

Figuratively, to fast-forward is to skip ahead in time or skip over tedious stretches: Let's fast-forward to the interesting stuff.
