fake it till one makes it
Feign until authentic
Fake it till one makes it is advice to act confident or competent before you actually are, on the theory that the pretense eventually becomes reality.
The idea is that projecting success—in demeanor, dress, or attitude—helps bring about genuine success: I didn't know what I was doing my first year, but I faked it till I made it.
Sometimes shortened to fake it till you make it.
