fake smile
Insincere facial expression
A fake smile is a smile that doesn't reflect genuine happiness or warmth—performed for social obligation, politeness, or deception.
Unlike a real smile, which engages muscles around the eyes, a fake smile typically involves only the mouth: She gave him a fake smile and excused herself.
The term implies the observer sees through the performance.
