fake books
Lead sheets compilation
A fake book is a collection of musical lead sheets—simplified scores showing melody, lyrics, and chord symbols for a large number of songs.
Musicians use them to perform standards without memorizing full arrangements.
The name comes from their origin as unauthorized compilations that let players "fake" their way through tunes: Every jazz pianist has a fake book on the bench.
