exclamations

Shouts of emotion

Exclamations are words or phrases uttered with strong feeling—surprise, joy, anger, pain.

They often stand alone as complete utterances: Wow!

Damn!

Oh no!

In grammar, exclamations typically end with exclamation marks and may invert normal word order: What a day!

How beautiful!

The term also covers the act of exclaiming: His exclamation startled everyone in the room.
