evidence planting
Falsifying crime scenes
Evidence planting is the act of placing false or misleading evidence at a crime scene or among someone's belongings to frame them for a crime they didn't commit.
The term typically describes police misconduct—officers fabricating evidence to secure convictions—but also applies to anyone manufacturing proof of another's guilt: The defense argued the drugs found in his car were planted.
To plant evidence is to commit this act.
