errant
Straying from path
Errant describes someone or something that strays from a proper course or standard.
A knight errant wandered in search of adventure; an errant golf ball lands where it shouldn't.
The word often implies wrongdoing or error: errant husbands, errant behavior.
It can also simply mean wandering or traveling, though this sense is now mostly literary.
Don't confuse errant with arrant, which means thoroughgoing or utter, as in arrant nonsense.
