ententes

Informal international agreements

Ententes are agreements or understandings between nations, typically less formal than treaties or alliances.

The term comes from French and often appears in historical contexts: the Triple Entente linked France, Russia, and Britain before World War I.

A cordial entente suggests friendly relations without binding obligations.

The singular entente works the same way but is less common in English.
