Elephant riding is the practice of sitting on an elephant's back, typically in a seat called a howdah, while the animal walks.
Once popular as tourism in Southeast Asia and India, it has declined as awareness grows about animal welfare concerns—captive elephants are often subjected to harsh training methods.
We skipped the elephant riding and visited a sanctuary instead.
